In the evening of August 8th, a broadcast by the LRA 36 Antarctic station from the Argentinean base Esperanza on 15476 kHz could be heard in Salzburg. After 19 o’clock UT also a morse signal was transmitted which allowed a clear identification.
World Music Radio is asking its listeners for support – and for this, a donation of 25 Euros or more will get you a real WMR mousepad. (And maybe a nice pennant) World Music Radio (WMR) broadcasts on 5840 and 15805 kHz since 2018. Soon it will be broadcast on 927 kHz. And Radio208 has been broadcasting on 1440 kHz since December 2019 and on shortwave 5805 kHz since May 2020. It took a lot of time, energy and money – but it was and still is great fun to keep the short and medium wave alive.The costs for the transmitters (around 15,000 euros), the antennas and the transmitter locations are one thing. Another thing are the running costs. The two big expenses are:
Royalties for music: 450 Euro per month
Electricity costs: 1.300 Euro per month

Even if only very weak transatlantic medium wave signals have been received in recent weeks, every now and then a catch is made. Yesterday, for example, Radio Andina from Juliaca at Lake Titicaca in Peru could be heard weakly on 1380 kHz at 0230 UT here in Salzburg.
Just in time for the HAM RADIO fair, MW-List has fulfilled a wish of mine: From now on you can download your own MW-List logbook, save and edit it yourself. The data is transferred as .txt file, just change the file extension to .csv after the download and open it with a spreadsheet software (Excel or Apple Numbers as example) and adjust it to your own wishes. Thanks to the whole team of MW-List around Günter Lorenz for their work!
An idea finally implemented: All my 88 here in Salzburg received and confirmed American mediumwave stations, marked with pins on a detailed National Geographic USA map (mounted on Kappa). A lot of work, but also a lot of fun at the Shack!
