Yesterday evening I was once again able to listen to Radio Republik Indonesia Bada Aceh in Salzburg. The frequency 1251 kHz is usually occupied by the Qinghai Tibetan Service from Xining, China, (a nice reception in itself!) which only started transmitting yesterday after Banda Aceh had started broadcasting. This gave me the rare opportunity to listen to the Indonesian medium wave station from Sumatra almost undisturbed at the start of transmission at 22 UT.
Some very nice signals can be heard from Asia. Especially around 16-17 UT, when the European stations are not yet interfering, my QRO.cz K9AY++ antenna brings quiet but undisturbed signals from the Far East.

Thinking about summer today: Insect mesh and fan installed. The fine mesh keeps all the fine dust from the meadows away from my PC fans, and the large fan managed to cool the air in the container by 2 degrees in 20 minutes in today’s test. This will come in handy in a few weeks’ time. The fan blows the air out of the container and the opening on the container wall was covered after the photo was taken.

I have now separated picture and sound from my remote PC, continue to use AnyDesk to transmit the picture from the PC at my station, but have switched off the audio transmission and use a small solution from a German radio amateur: RemAud – Remote Audio Software from DF3CB. This free software (but you can already send him a few stones with PayPal) is tailored exactly to our SDR requirements, can be set in many audio codecs and delivers an extremely good audio signal in 22 kHz PCM, 16 bit, for example, absolutely no comparison to the audio signals that come directly from the remote programmes like AnyDesk or Team Viewer. Of course, you can also use only 8 kHz with 8 bit, but this is often not necessary – but it is possible to save bandwidth, you can then transmit audio at less than 15 kB/s.
In October I could hear a weak signal from KDZR “La Patrona” 1640 from Oregon in Salzburg on 1640.0025. After almost four months, I now got a response from the West Coast. I have now heard and confirmed the 44th US state on medium wave in Salzburg.

The end point of the two-wire beverage. The springs keep the wire under tension but can be stretched up to 20 cm so that the wire cannot break under storm and ice load. The terminator is located in the box and at the bottom you can see the earth electrode where the buried radials begin.
Mid-February at my station. The 200 meter Beverage has survived the winter with lots of snow and storms absolutely unscathed, everything is as mechanically sound as the day it was installed.
