Here is a very special QSL card. JOAD NHK 2 from Okinawa Islands in the East China Sea between Taiwan and Japan’s mainland confirmed the reception of its medium wave station here in Salzburg on 1125 kHz from the beginning of March 2024 with this beautiful QSL card and many stickers so popular in Japan. A rare and beautiful end to the MW season 2023/2024.

It’s still difficult for me to assess the performance of the 335° Beverage in the direction of LA; the signals today were mostly weak. 1550 kHz with at least three stations would still be exciting. One of them is probably Radio Carnavi from Bolivia on 1550.006, which closed shortly after 03 UT, but was too weak overall.

As expected, no audible radio signals were received in the medium wave band in Central Europe. In Scotland, WMEX, Quincy, Boston, was received audibly on 1510 kHz. Here in Salzburg I was able to detect the signal at least for one minute at 19.53 UT on 1509.999 kHz in the spectrum at my Beverage antenna. The maximum obscuration in Boston with 92.59% took place at 19.28 UT.

Tansatlantic signals have usually not been very strong over the last few days, with the exception of March 31, 2024. That was a memorable day here. I have been able to hear exactly 34 stations from Colombia so far on 31 March. The signals were as if they had been cut out with scissors. It was also remarkable that not a single station from North America could be heard from 1,000 – 1390 kHz at 0420 UT. For example, there was no signal from New York on 1130, only Magica Radio Reloj, Pasto. The daily recording here in Salzburg is worthwhile for moments like this. I’m looking forward to the coming weeks, as my antenna only points towards the west coast, but apparently its short length means that it also picks up northern South America well. Let’s look forward to the upcoming South American signals.
